Amongst the madness of traffic, I felt lonely.
I was looking for a place to escape the noise of city life and leave all my worries behind. It was another day in a mystical land full of natural wonders. I was thinking about him when the train stopped. My eyes got stuck in the clouds white as pearls. The flowers were bathing in fresh dew. I dared to walk barefoot through the golden fields of sunflowers. I could sit for hours there.
As I stood on the wooden bridge listening to the water and getting lost in the beauty of the moment, he appeared out of nowhere and gave me a hug – the guy with crystal blue eyes brighter than the sky…those eyes held all the mysteries of life.
He was the first person to help me when I got there as I didn’t know the language of the locals. And all of a sudden, we became good friends. We were farangs thirsty for adventures and fun, slaves of our wanderlust.
I was witnessing the most beautiful sunset when he asked me:
“Look into my eyes and tell me what you see…without showing off my greatest assets as most people do it here.”
“When I look into your eyes, I see kind of light that appears out of nowhere. When I look into your eyes, I want to swim in the magical colors of the Northern lights.
When I look into your eyes, I see someone whose mind wanders through all the starry nights. I see a man who believes in himself and his dreams, and a warrior who fights.
When I look into your eyes, I feel I can touch the sky and fly with you to the Moon and back to your arms open wide.
When I look into your eyes, I see Winter is over; I feel the warmth of my new home. When I look into your eyes, the whole world gets another dimension and I always find a four-leaf clover.
When I look into your eyes, I see all my hopes, dreams, and secret desires. When I look into your eyes, I feel more imaginative, curious, hypnotized.
When I look into your wild blue eyes, I see few tears. I see a sad lonely man lost in unrequited love, wrapped around bittersweet fears.
And I dare not intrude. And I dare not disturb the beauty of your frosty eyes.
When I look into your eyes, I curse life for not being fair, when I look into your eyes, I’m drowning in despair.”
“I saw you with her this morning…”- I murmured, instead. “She doesn’t seem to care, but you like her a lot, don’t you?”- I sighed deeply from the bottom of my heart.
“Why do you look sad?”- he asked.
“Because you speak to me with words and I look at you with feelings.” Because I hate you. Because you are blind… Because I LOVE YOU.”
“Abraham Cowley said: “Of all pains, the greatest pain is to love, but love in vain.” – I said.
“True words.” – he smiled.
And at that moment, I fell in love with his smile more than ever. I couldn’t help myself but fall for those deep-set blue eyes that have been taking my breath forever.
I closed my eyes and just wished his eyes would saw me the way they saw her.
“The love that lasts longest is the love that is never returned.” – W. Somerset Maugham
To everyone who has ever loved someone so strongly without being loved back.
