It’s not a secret that Japan, often called the “Land of the Rising Sun”, is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Located in the Pacific Ocean, the country abounds in geographical and cultural diversity. Another thing which makes this country beautiful is the slim and young-looking Japanese women.

If you’ve already seen them or will ever do that, you can’t miss noticing their natural beauty. Japanese women stay slim and look young even at an older age. You can’t help but wonder what their secret is.

Well, there isn’t anything extraordinary about it. Their lifestyle and diet are what helps them stay slim and look young. Doing physical exercises and eating healthy food prepared in the right way is what they put their focus on so as not to gain weight and look old.

So, in connection with that, here is a list of 8 reasons for which Japanese women stay slim and look young:

1. They eat seafood

Compared to the Americans that mostly eat red meat, Japanese women prefer eating seafood. They avoid eating red meat as it can cause different health problems, such as inflammations, high cholesterol, and obesity. On the contrary, eating fish is healthy because it contains proteins, important nutrients, and omega – 3 fatty acids, which keep the heart, brain and other organs healthy.

Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for other reasons as well. For example, they decrease body fat, principally the fat in the abdominal area.

Moreover, these fatty acids maintain the health of the skin. They protect the skin from many disorders, such as psoriasis, acne vulgaris, atopic dermatitis, and even melanoma.

2. They consume green tea

Green tea is prepared with tea leaves of a great quality. Despite being tasty, green tea is very healthy. This tea abounds in antioxidants which postpone our aging and protect our bodies from free radicals.

Green tea is also good for our health because it decreases the possibilities of experiencing heart disease and suffering from cancer.

One study which was published in JAMA in 2006, showed that Japanese adults who consumed green tea had a lower risk of dying due to all causes and due to cardiovascular disease.

3. They eat fermented foods

What are fermented foods? These are foods that have gone through a process of lacto fermentation that conserves the natural nutrients in food and produces omega-3 fatty acids, beneficial enzymes, and B vitamins.

The process of fermentation also contributes to weight loss. This is so because fermentation produces friendly bacteria and makes food more digestible, and all this helps us digest food more easily.

One study that was published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology shows that the increase in the good intestinal bacteria is related to the fermented dairy products.

The study also suggests that herbs and foods which are non-dairy fermented may also affect the friendly intestinal bacteria positively.

4. They follow healthy methods for cooking

Eating healthy food is essential and cooking it by using healthy methods is equally important. Japanese women tend to eat raw, simmered and grilled food. Consuming food in this way helps to preserve the nutrients and taste that the ingredients have. Japanese women rarely consume food which is fried, but when they do so, they accompany it with other dishes, thereby maintaining the meal healthy.

5. They consume smaller portions of food

If you consider the way Japanese women eat, you’ll immediately see why they stay slim. Women in Japan don’t eat big meals. By consuming smaller portions, they prevent themselves from gaining weight because they eat less in that way.

How much important this is to them can be seen in the typical way they serve food. These are some of the practical rules they follow:

  • They don’t fill up their plates with food to the top
  • They serve food in small portions
  • They eat the food fresh
  • They decorate and order the food in an appropriate way to present its natural beauty.

6. Walking is important to them

People in Japan find physical exercise very useful for their health. Walking helps them stay slim and lose weight.

Walking also betters cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and increases energy levels.

Many people prefer to walk to get to work, and children go on foot to school as well.

Another great form of exercise besides walking is riding bicycles. A lot of people use bicycles to get to work or everywhere else.

7. They prefer eating healthy desserts

If you want to stay slim and look young even at an older age, don’t eat sweets which contain the usual fattening ingredients. Instead of eating desserts full of sugar, women in Japan like eating fresh fruit when they finish their meal.

Additionally, the sweets that Japanese women eat don’t contain refined flours, too much caramel and other ingredients with lots of fat and sugar.

In cases when they eat sweets belonging to the Western-style, they consume only small portions.

8.  They like using hot spring baths

The water temperature and vital minerals are what makes hot spring baths very good for the Japanese women’s health. These baths enhance the circulation of blood and oxygen in the body, which in turn helps the heart and other organs.

Hot spring baths also lower stress and bring about better sleep – the things which help Japanese women stay slim and look young.
