Most probably, arrogance is one of the worst personality traits. Arrogant people are difficult to handle and endure.
I guess you all have met that haughty person who thinks he/she is better than anyone else. They’re preoccupied with their talents and achievements. They believe they deserve all the attention in this world and act like they’re superior to everyone.
This kind of people sees themselves as “one of a kind” that deserves to be in the company of people belonging to the same type.
They’re always ready to use others so as to meet their needs and goals without showing any consideration or empathy for other people’s feelings.
Arrogant people look down on you and they’ll find many ways to show that they have higher importance and value than you and that they’re more than worthy of admiration.
When arrogant people don’t have anything smart and plausible to say, they start making unfavorable comments and may even pretend they don’t know their behavior hurts you.
In this way, arrogant people can really get on your nerves. So, you have to learn how to respond to their comments effectively in order to catch their attention.
You can prevent them from ruining your day if you are equipped with some or all of the following 8 responses.
Here they are:
1.’There are other ways of seeing things, you know?’
Arrogant people aren’t afraid to express their negative opinion of others. Moreover, they’ll try to convince you that it’s only their point of view which is correct and the best. How foolish, right?
You have to make them know that you disagree with their negative opinion about people or things and that others have different views as well.
2.’Do you know how arrogant that sounded? I’m sure you didn’t mean it.’
Let’s say an arrogant person tells you this: “you’ll never be as good and successful as I am.” Sounds belittling, right?
Well, if you use the above-mentioned comeback, you’ll definitely take them by surprise. In this way, you’ll show them you believe they didn’t have any bad intentions with what they said. Moreover, you can further explain that you believe the aim of their inappropriate comment was to make you work harder and improve yourself.
Although by saying this, you’ll give them a chance to find a way out and correct their comment, you’ll also show that they can’t underestimate you.
3.’Ouch! That hurts!’
This retort can really make them go back to reality. This kind of people likes using their hostile comments or insults to make you feel sh*tty.
Yet, don’t let this upset you. Instead of paying insult for an insult, make them aware that their words make you feel unworthy and hurt you. Who knows? Maybe they’ll get embarrassed and apologize to you.
4.’Oh, really? And what makes you think you’re superior to others?’
Arrogant people see themselves as if they’re at the top of the world. They believe they’re more important than others and deserve constant admiration. Well, I strongly disagree.
By asking this question, you’ll show them that their attempt to underestimate you or anyone else is futile. They’ll be shocked to hear you don’t share their opinion and that they aren’t more special than everyone else.
5.’Why are you saying that, please tell me?’
This question will make them think more carefully what they’re saying. In this way, you’ll make them reconsider the reasons behind their insults, stereotypes, and generalizations.
There’s a little chance that this question will help them realize that their behavior is bad and inappropriate and might try changing it and/or even apologizing to you.
6.’Actually, did you know that my mother…?’
Ask them this question and you’ll see how uncomfortable they’ll feel. Arrogant people enjoy underestimating others as this feeds their self-esteem and ego. They’ll rely on negative stereotypes just to make themselves look worthier.
Next time, when they try to belittle you, stop their bad intention by mentioning that a person who’s close to you belongs in the group underestimated by the arrogant person. For example, imagine them saying this: “I’m one of the richest in the whole neighborhood. I can’t allow that blue-collar worker come to my birthday party.” Try responding that your mother works in a factory and see how they’ll blush and quickly apologize.
7.’ I hope you’ll stop talking now.’
If they have the right to make rude comments about you or others, why can’t you end the conversation in the same way without explaining why you’re doing that? This will leave them speechless.
You might even try before leaving to say something to them which will make them think about their actions or feel embarrassed.
8. “Well, thank you!’
Instead of getting angry or playing their little games, tell them “thank you.” In this way, you’ll show that you’re aware of the arrogant person’s bad intentions. You’ll also demonstrate that you have high confidence levels and that what they said didn’t hurt you or diminish your value.
Remember: You only live once. Don’t let arrogant people stress you and ruin your day with their snotty comments!
